Celebrating volunteers from afar

Volunteer Services staff members sent virtual greetings to Greenwich Hospital’s Auxiliary members.

Although Greenwich Hospital suspended its volunteer program in mid-March, the Auxiliary has been working hard to support staff while respecting the volunteer furlough and practicing social distancing. The hospital celebrated one of the most unusual “National Volunteer Appreciation Weeks” in April with virtual salutes to the 525 adult and junior volunteers who play an integral role in our mission to provide high-quality, compassionate care.

Volunteers have made handmade masks for staff and distributed 30 bags with treats to all clinical areas of the hospital. On Volunteer Appreciation Day, the Auxiliary transformed what should have been a celebration of volunteers into an uplifting afternoon for hospital employees by treating everyone to ice cream. A trip to the Bona Bona ice cream truck parked in the hospital’s community garden was a much appreciated respite.

“We are humbled and thankful for your continued support,” Stacey Green, Volunteer Services, told the volunteers in a letter. “Please know that you are missed and thought of daily.”
