Heroes work here
A message from the president of Greenwich Hospital
The three simple words on the banner that graces Greenwich Hospital’s facade say it best: "Heroes work here". I am proud to work side-by-side with these heroes – the women and men from all corners of the hospital who have courageously and compassionately cared for our patients and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last several months have been challenging, to say the least, and this experience will forever be embedded in our personal and collective memories. We shed tears for the patients who lost their battle and cheered for those who recovered. We witnessed the ingenuity of staff, constantly finding creative ways to better care for patients and their loved ones. We were deeply moved by the robust support from our generous and caring community.
Now we begin a new chapter in Greenwich Hospital’s history. It’s been wonderful to welcome back our patients these last several months. We have resumed all inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, laboratory work and other healthcare services at the main campus and off site locations in Connecticut and New York. As you’ll read in our cover story, Greenwich Hospital has prioritized safety more so now than ever with new measures that protect patients and staff, all done in collaboration with Yale New Haven Health.
On a personal note, after more than four decades at Yale New Haven Health and five years as Greenwich Hospital’s president and chief executive officer, I will retire on October 2. Diane Kelly, DNP, has been appointed the hospital’s new president effective immediately, having served as chief operating officer for the last two years. I leave Greenwich Hospital in excellent hands.
No words can fully express my gratitude for the opportunity to serve in one of the nation’s greatest health systems and be accorded the honor to lead one of its finest hospitals. Thank you.
— Norman G. Roth, President and Chief Executive Officer
