West Putnam Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The mood was festive as leaders from Yale New Haven Health cut the ribbon at the new West Putnam Medical Center at 500 West Putnam Ave. in Greenwich, which includes a variety of outpatient services provided by Greenwich Hospital, Yale New Haven Health Heart and Vascular Center, Yale Medicine and Northeast Medical Group.
Greenwich, CT (Nov. 8, 2019) – Yale New Haven Health hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday to officially open the newly renovated West Putnam Medical Center at 500 West Putnam Ave. in Greenwich, which offers patients easy access to cardiac, primary care, pediatric, endoscopy, laboratory, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitation services under one roof.

Approximately 170 people attended the grand opening of the outpatient facility, which includes services from Greenwich Hospital, Yale New Haven Health Heart and Vascular Center, Yale Medicine and Northeast Medical Group.

“The future of medicine is in keeping people healthy and out of the hospital. Having a comprehensive outpatient center on the New York/Connecticut border, with the strength and skills of Greenwich Hospital, Northeast Medical Group, Yale Medicine and Yale New Haven Health behind it, empowers the health of our community,” said Norman G. Roth, Greenwich Hospital’s president and chief executive officer. Greenwich Hospital provides diagnostic imaging, laboratory, physical medicine and endoscopy services at West Putnam Medical Center.

Keith Churchwell, MD, Yale New Haven Heart and Vascular Center executive director, said community access to heart and vascular services from Yale Medicine specialists had “grown exponentially” with the opening of the Greenwich facility. The center includes general cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and other physicians. “The ability to build a heart and vascular center in collaboration with our partners in primary care, obstetrics and pediatrics is a dream come true,” he said. “Our enhanced ability to take care of the patients we have the honor to serve is exciting and a huge opportunity for Greenwich and the Heart and Vascular Center.”

Prathibha Varkey, MBBS, president and chief executive officer of Northeast Medical Group, said the multi-specialty facility provided an “incredible opportunity to be part of the community and be with our patients when they are going through illness or interested in enhancing their health.” Northeast Medical Group has an internal medicine practice at West Putnam Medical Center and an obstetrics/gynecology practice will open at the site in January 2020. Northeast Medical Group is a network of more than 120 physician practices representing more than 1,000 clinicians in Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island.

West Putnam Medical Center also houses the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital Pediatric Specialty Center and Greenwich Hospital’s Pediatric Outpatient Center, which both opened last year. The YNHCH Pediatric Specialty Center provides children and their families with access to nationally ranked specialties. The Greenwich Hospital Pediatric Center provides care to thousands of under- and uninsured children each year.

Greenwich Hospital is a member of Yale New Haven Health. Greenwich is a 206-bed (includes 32 isolettes) community hospital serving lower Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York. It is a academic affiliate of Yale School of Medicine. Since opening in 1903, Greenwich Hospital has evolved into a progressive medical center and teaching institution representing all medical specialties and offering a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic and wellness programs. Greenwich Hospital is recognized throughout the healthcare industry as a leader in service and patient satisfaction excellence. Greenwich Hospital has the prestigious Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the nation’s highest honor of nursing excellence. www.greenwichhospital.org
