Recipients of the Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence (PEACE) will be honored with two trophies – one for the winning employee to keep and one for employee's department to display for the month until the next PEACE recipients are named.

Underscoring the tremendous impact that all members of the Yale New Haven Hospital staff have on the overall patient experience, the hospital launched a new reward program in late December. The Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence (PEACE) highlights the actions of employees who embody the "I Am Yale New Haven" service excellence pledge.

"On behalf of the Patient Experience team, we are pleased to announce the PEACE award," said Susan Haufe, executive director, Patient Experience. "Time and time again, we hear about the lengths our employees go to create an exceptional experience for our patients and their families. It's important that we give these stories the chance to percolate up through the units and share them with the hospital. More importantly, we want to let our employees know that their efforts are noticed and valued."

All employees are eligible for the PEACE award.

Any employee may submit a nomination by sending an email to [email protected]. Nominations should include the nominee's name, along with a specific story or example of how the employee exemplified the service excellence pledge of:
  • Creating a great first impression
  • Protecting the privacy of our patients
  • Valuing diversity and treating all persons with respect
  • Communicating with compassion and courtesy
  • Maintaining a safe, quiet and clean environment
  • Taking action when things go wrong
Members of the Reward and Recognition team will select a winning submission from the York Street and Saint Raphael campuses every month. PEACE award winners will receive an individual trophy as well as a "traveling" department trophy. Winners and their managers also will be recognized at the monthly managers meeting and featured in The Bulletin. Nominations may be submitted at any time.

"We are excited to share the stories of the excellent work that our employees exhibit every day and look forward to hearing from all areas of the hospital," Haufe said.
