Bigger, better and ready for the future

sterile processing

Cutting the ribbon were (l-r): Richard D’Aquila, YNHH president; Robert Newton, CSS educator; Trevor Banack, MD; Walter Hall Jr., CSS senior manager; Margaret Cintron, CSS director; Kendall Palladino, chaplain; Susan Maxwell, RN, vice president, Perioperative Services; Maxwell Laurans, MD; and Michael Holmes, senior vice president, Operations.

The old sterile processing area at the Saint Raphael Campus was built to clean and sterilize equipment for eight operating rooms. Thanks to a hard-working staff that made the best of 8,000 square feet, it served 24 ORs. With 30 ORs now at the SRC, it was time for a space equipped to handle future growth. That space opened with a March 27 ribbon-cutting, when Central Sterile Supply staff and leaders proudly showed off the 12,000-square-foot area that features advanced disinfection equipment, ergonomically designed decontamination areas and a new sterile storage room.
