Women's Heart and Vascular Program

The Women's Heart and Vascular Program provides cardiac care for women with heart disease and expert screening of women at risk for heart disease.

Heart disease remains the number one killer of American women and there is a great need for specialized care directed at women's cardiac needs. The Women's Heart and Vascular Program provides screening, education and treatment for women at risk for, or with established heart disease.

The center is staffed by cardiologists who are also Yale School of Medicine faculty members, a registered dietitian and registered exercise physiologists, affiliated with Greenwich Hospital.

During an initial visit to the center, the patient meets with a cardiologist who will conduct a risk assessment and health check-up, and discuss the patient’s medical history. The patient will also receive an electrocardiogram to evaluate heart rhythm and check for conditions such as blocked coronary arteries and abnormal heart chamber size. Blood tests will also be ordered for cardiac testing. Depending on clinical findings, a patient will be referred for appropriate cardiac tests and/or physicians, if needed.

Tests available at our facility include:

  • Echocardiogram that shows valve and heart pump function
  • Stress echocardiogram that includes exercise on a treadmill with echocardiographic imaging
  • Holter monitor or implantable recorder for heart rhythm monitoring
  • Ultrasound to look for vein disease and possible arterial disease

During a woman’s first visit, she will also see a registered dietitian and cardiac exercise specialist. She will also learn about cardiac disease, stroke and CPR. For more information or to make an appointment, please call 203-863-4210.
