Greenwich Hospital selected for four Women’s Choice Awards

Tuesday, September 8, 2015

Greenwich, CT - Greenwich Hospital was recently honored for the second year in a row with four Women’s Choice Awards. Greenwich was named as best in Obstetrics, Cancer Care and Best Breast Center as well as being named as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience.

The Women’s Choice Award is the only distinction that identifies the nation’s best health care institutions based on robust criteria that considers patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and women’s highest preferences when it comes to treatment and a quality hospital experience.

“Service excellence and patient satisfaction are the cornerstones on which we’ve built Greenwich Hospital’s culture,” said Norman G. Roth, president, Greenwich Hospital. “This award is yet another affirmation of our commitment to ensure that each and every one of our patients has the best experience possible while in our care.”

The America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics scoring process is unique in that it is the only national list that focuses on female patient satisfaction. Greenwich Hospital qualified for this highly selective designation by providing the highest level of obstetric services based on their exceptional scores for patient recommendation, as provided by data reported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys, as well as an analysis that weighs criteria identified as the most important to women for patient satisfaction, including early elective deliveries.

Greenwich Hospital was eligible for the America’s Best Breast Centers award because they met the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers standards from the American College of Surgeons. Greenwich Hospital also carries the seal of the American College of Radiologists as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence and scored above-average on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services patient satisfaction measures.

Among the group of hospitals considered, Greenwich Hospital earned the America’s Best Hospital for Cancer Care award because they have met the comprehensive cancer care standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, as well as achieving excellence in clinical performance with regard to cancer care measures and for their high recommendation rate.

Greenwich Hospital has also earned the award for America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience. The process begins with scores derived by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for each hospital in the HCAHPS database. The score takes a subset of the questions HCAHPS uses, that research and experience shows are more important to women than to men. Weight is applied to each of those questions to adjust for relative importance and arrive at a numerical score.

“We have found that recommendations are the single most important consideration used by women in selecting a hospital or care center,” added Delia Passi, CEO and founder of WomenCertified, home of the Women’s Choice Award. “By letting women know which hospitals in their area are among America’s best, we are able to reduce risk by helping them make better decisions and smarter health care choices.”

By carrying the Women’s Choice Award seal in these areas, Greenwich Hospital has joined an elite network of hospitals committed to a global mission empowering women to make smart healthcare choices.
