Town approves Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich

Tuesday, July 22, 2025

Greenwich, CT (July 21, 2025) – Greenwich Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital proudly announce that the Greenwich Hospital Breast Center has received reaccreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons. In addition, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich has achieved renewal of its accreditation as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), also a quality program of the American College of Surgeons.

These achievements reflect Greenwich Hospital’s continued commitment to providing the highest standard of care for patients with breast disease and all forms of cancer.

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) is a consortium of national, professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only awarded to centers that provide comprehensive, patient-centered, multidisciplinary care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process every three years. This includes compliance with 28 evidence-based standards encompassing leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) is a quality program of the American College of Surgeons that recognizes cancer care programs for their commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality and multidisciplinary patient-centered care. To earn and maintain accreditation, cancer programs must meet 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a detailed survey process and maintain levels of excellence in delivering patient-centered care across the cancer continuum — including prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, lifelong follow-up and end-of-life care.

“Achieving reaccreditation from both the NAPBC and the CoC is a testament to the dedication, collaboration and exceptional care delivered by our entire oncology team,” said Kristina Capretti, DNP, director, patient services for the Upper and Lower Fairfield Region, Smilow Cancer Hospital. “These recognitions affirm our mission to provide our patients with access to world-class, compassionate cancer care right here in their own community.”

Greenwich Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital continue to set the standard for comprehensive cancer treatment and support services, reinforcing its role as a leader in oncology care in Fairfield and Westchester counties.

Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven is part of the nationally recognized Yale New Haven Hospital, and is affiliated with Yale Cancer Center (YCC), one of only 56 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the nation and the only such center in Connecticut.
