GREENWICH, CT (May 12, 2025) – Greenwich Hospital celebrated its annual Nurses’ Day Celebration on Monday, May 11, recognizing staff members, physicians and nurses who exemplify compassion, collaboration and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. All honorees were nominated by and voted on by hospital employees.
The Partner-in-Care Award, honoring support staff who consistently go above and beyond for patients, was presented to Jerry Laureano, manager of Logistics for Greenwich Hospital. He was recognized for his steadfast support of nursing teams, proactive approach to supply management and positive, can-do attitude that helps ensure safe, high-quality care across the hospital.
The Physician Partner-in-Care Award was awarded to Athanassios Petrotos, MD, chief of Acute Care Surgery and director of Trauma at Greenwich Hospital, and assistant professor of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Petrotos was honored for more than two decades of service marked by clinical excellence, mentorship and an unwavering willingness to step in wherever needed to do what is right for patients.
The Collaborative Award, which recognizes colleagues who lead with altruism and strengthen teamwork across the organization, was presented to Cloti Ilano and Stacey Green. Ilano, manager of the hospital’s Case Management team, was recognized for her compassionate leadership and tireless collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to support patients and families through complex care and discharge planning. Green, director of Volunteer Services, was honored for her long-standing leadership in service excellence, volunteer engagement and community-focused initiatives.
The celebration concluded with presentation of the Helen Meehan Award, also known as the Nurse of the Year Award, to Sarah Stempien, RN. A Greenwich Hospital nurse for 13 years, Stempien was recognized for her excellence in nursing practice, leadership and mentorship. Known for her compassion and calm presence, she plays a vital role across Maternity services while supporting patients, families and colleagues during some of life’s most meaningful moments.
Anna Cerra, DNP, RN, FAAN, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Greenwich Hospital, presented the Nurse of the Year Award and closed the celebration.
“Your hard work behind the scenes ensures that our patients receive the comprehensive care they need and deserve,” Cerra said. “It is a privilege to be entrusted with their care, and we must never lose sight of the profound impact we have on their lives. Each interaction, no matter how small, has the power to make a difference. Your actions have the power to heal, comfort and inspire hope.”
