Greenwich Hospital earns five-star rating by CMS

cms 5 star rating

Thursday, May 14, 2026

GREENWICH, CT (May 14, 2026) – Greenwich Hospital has earned a prestigious five-star overall hospital quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), recognizing the hospital for outstanding performance in patient safety, clinical quality and the exceptional experience it provides to patients and families.

The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating is based on performance across several key categories, including safety of care, mortality, readmissions, patient experience, and timely and effective care. Fewer than 15 percent of hospitals nationwide achieve the five-star distinction.

Greenwich Hospital, part of Yale New Haven Health, plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to communities throughout lower Fairfield County and nearby New York, serving as a trusted healthcare destination for patients across state lines.

“This achievement is the result of true collaboration and teamwork,” said Bob Blenderman, president of Greenwich Hospital. “From our frontline caregivers to our support teams, everyone plays a role in meeting the highest standards for safety, quality and compassionate patient experience. I am proud of our staff and grateful for the shared commitment that makes this level of care possible for our patients and community.”

Karen Santucci, MD, chief medical officer of Greenwich Hospital, emphasized the significance of the recognition for the region the hospital serves.

“A five-star CMS rating reflects consistent, high-quality performance across the full continuum of care,” Dr. Santucci said. “For the patients and families of lower Fairfield County and neighboring New York communities, this recognition provides confidence that they can access exceptional, safe care close to home. It is a testament to the dedication of our clinical teams and our shared focus on continuously improving outcomes for the people we serve.”

Achieving a five-star rating requires sustained excellence across dozens of quality measures and reflects years of coordinated efforts to strengthen patient safety, clinical outcomes, and the overall patient experience. CMS, a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, administers the nation’s major healthcare programs and publishes hospital quality ratings to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive care.
