Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and Greenwich Hospital hold ribbon-cutting ceremony for two new pediatric facilities in Greenwich

Thursday, November 15, 2018

Greenwich, CT (Nov. 15, 2018) – Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital (YNHCH) and Greenwich Hospital hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday to officially open the new YNHCH Pediatric Specialty Center and the Greenwich Hospital Pediatric Outpatient Center in Greenwich.

Approximately 75 people gathered at 500 West Putnam Ave. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 to celebrate the grand opening of the two centers, which are located adjacent to one another on the second floor.

The YNHCH Pediatric Specialty Center provides patients, families and referring providers with access to nationally ranked specialists. The full range of specialties and programs offered include: allergy/immunology, cardiology, craniofacial surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, hepatology, infusion center, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, orthopedics, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, phlebotomy, respiratory, rheumatology, surgery and urology. The team includes board-certified medical and surgical pediatric specialists from Yale, advanced practice providers, registered nurses, social work, psychology, nutrition services and child life. The 8,700-square-foot center features cheerful, child-friendly décor, including an interactive wall in the waiting room.

Adjacent to the YNHCH Pediatric Specialty Center is Greenwich Hospital’s Pediatric Outpatient Center, which annually handles 4,500 visits from children who are under or uninsured. When necessary, these patients can be easily referred to the YNHCH Pediatric Specialty Center for care.

Both centers represent the latest advances by Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and Greenwich Hospital to enhance children’s services. In addition to staffing the Pediatric Specialty Center, Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital provides 24/7 pediatric emergency services and around-the-clock coverage of the pediatric inpatient floor at Greenwich Hospital. A total of 44 YNHCH pediatric specialists are now collaborating with the expert physicians and nurses at Greenwich Hospital.

“The opening of the new Pediatric Specialty Center provides families and referring providers here in lower Fairfield and Westchester County with convenient access to top ranked specialties and a full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic specialty care,” said Cynthia Sparer, senior vice president, Operations at Yale New Haven Hospital and executive director, Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.

“Greenwich Hospital and Yale New Haven have been partners for over 20 years,” said Norman G. Roth, president and CEO Greenwich Hospital. “One of the many great results of this partnership has been the ability to bring pediatric specialists to Greenwich. Another has been to fully staff our Emergency Department with pediatric emergency physicians and pediatric hospitalists enabling Greenwich Hospital to have the most comprehensive pediatric service in our region.”

Also speaking at the event was a local mom whose daughter was a patient of Anthony Porto, MD, pediatric gastroenterologist. “I was so relieved to receive this care in Greenwich,” said Kristin Updike. “The realities of traveling to Yale were just too overwhelming… this takes a huge burden off the parents’ shoulders.”

Other services at the 500 West Putnam Avenue location are outpatient endoscopy surgery and primary care center, along with physical medicine services (physical, occupational and speech therapies). The hospital plans to add cardiology and blood draw services in the near future.
