Greenwich Hospital recently hosted the fourth annual Spike Lipschutz, MD, Quality and Safety Celebration to recognize innovation, collaboration and data-driven excellence in patient care.
Named for the hospital’s former chief medical officer, the event showcased projects that advance quality and safety while highlighting the dedication of staff across disciplines. This year’s winners included:
- Innovation in Clinical Practice: “Managing Pain for Patients with Fragility Hip Fractures – introducing pre-op Single Shot Peripheral Nerve Blocks to reduce opioid use and improve outcomes.”
- Data-Driven Impact: “Antihyperglycemic Medication for Stroke/TIA Patients – boosting prescribing rates from 32% to 70%, surpassing national benchmarks.”
- Collaborative Excellence: “Hospice in the Intensive Care Unit – bringing together a multidisciplinary team to improve transitions to hospice care for patients receiving comfort measures.”
Runners-up included projects that expanded PET scan capacity; improved medication reconciliation through data dashboards; and strengthened compliance with oral anticancer agents through nurse-pharmacy collaboration.
The celebration was a testament to the hospital’s ongoing commitment to quality improvement and patient-centered care and concluded with a barbecue for staff.
