Gisel Quintana, RN, Maternity, discovered a significant discrepancy between the gestational period listed in the Epic medical record for a newborn and the period listed in the mother’s EMR. Quintana investigated further and verified the correct gestational age. She alerted the care team, who corrected the birth history section of the infant’s chart. Accurate gestational age assessment is crucial for appropriate inpatient and post-hospital care including identification of age and growth patterns and development of management plans.
