Great Catch winner announced

Nikki Campbell, RN, Emergency Department, won the Great Catch Award after jumping into action to help a patient in severe respiratory distress. Campbell had just finished her shift and was leaving the hospital around 3 am when she heard cries for help. Seeing a person who couldn’t make it from the parking garage into the ED, Campbell grabbed a wheelchair and brought the patient directly to the care team in Trauma 5. Campbell helped ensure the patient received immediate evaluation and care, significantly improving the patient’s outcome. Her actions exemplify ownership beyond assigned duties, strong attention to detail and a willingness to step in when it matters most.

Claudyane Guerrier Lewis, RN, Medicine A and B, received the Great Catch Award after notifying Security about a person consuming Purell hand sanitizer. Guerrier Lewis’ action helped ensure the Rapid Response Team was called and the person was quickly evaluated and safely transported to the Emergency Department for further assessment. The event also built upon a safety analysis and awareness effort that occurred after a similar incident last fall. Guerrier Lewis exemplified a learning organization mindset, translating prior safety insights into immediate action.
