Greenwich Hospital hosted its annual Nurses’ Day Celebration in May, recognizing the achievements of staff who exemplify what it means to go above and beyond to serve their patients, help their coworkers and better the community.

The Helen Meehan Award – also known as the Nurse of the Year Award, which is given to a registered nurse for excellence in nursing practice, teaching and/or leadership – went to Doris Dubail, RN. Dubail is the Operating Room’s longest-tenured nurse. She started working for Greenwich Hospital in 1982 as a surgical tech before continuing her education to become a nurse. She was praised for her exceptional skill, mentorship and unwavering commitment to patient care.

The Partner-in-Care Award went to Jessika Naranjo of Patient Relations, who was recognized for being a phenomenal advocate and champion for patients, families and staff. Naranjo was also credited with mastering patient experience data, targeting areas of improvement, supporting the patient experience system and leading interactive workshops.

The Physician Partner-in-Care Award, which recognizes a physician who promotes excellence in hospital practice, staff and patient interaction, teaching and leadership, went to Alice Rusk, MD, Neurology. Dr. Rusk was recognized for her generosity and tireless work ethic. She was praised for her work specializing in the care of patients with Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, dementia and complex headache syndrome. Her team describes her as their “shining and guiding light."

The COLLABORATIVE Award (Colleague within our Organization Leading and Living Altruistically for the Betterment of our community recognizing Opportunities Resources and Action plans to support our Teams Intuitively while Vitalizing and promoting Excellence) was presented to Aliaksandr Mardovin from Digital Technology Solutions. Mardovin was praised for working vigorously and professionally to address the wide range of information technology issues at the hospital.

Anna Cerra, RN, DNP, chief nursing officer and senior vice president, presented the Nurse of the Year Award and wrapped up the festivities. “Each interaction, no matter how small, has the power to make a difference,” she said. “It’s important to not only recognize the outstanding contributions of our nurses, but to also take the time to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all those who contribute to the delivery of quality care.”
