Christia Morton, RN

Christia Morton, RN, Medicine A & B, was recognized for helping a patient who was experiencing homelessness and lacked appropriate clothing. Understanding how essential dignity and comfort are to the patient experience, Morton brought clean clothes from home for the patient. By meeting a basic yet deeply personal need, Morton helped restore the patient’s comfort, dignity and sense of self-worth during a challenging time. Her actions went far beyond routine responsibilities and exemplified true patient-centered care – treating every individual with compassion and respect, regardless of circumstance.

Georgia Davis

Georgia Davis, speech and language pathologist, Physical Medicine, demonstrated exceptional dedication while caring for a patient with COPD who was experiencing worsening difficulty swallowing. Recognizing the patient’s distress and desperation for answers, Davis approached him with empathy and patience while remaining determined to identify the cause of his symptoms. After conducting an exam, she noted subtle but concerning findings and recommended a GI consultation. Further testing revealed a rare and serious condition, leading to an urgent transfer to Yale New Haven Hospital for esophageal stent placement. The patient thanked Davis for listening, investigating thoroughly and persisting until the real cause of his symptoms was found. Davis’ expertise, persistence, and advocacy led to a timely diagnosis, rapid escalation of care and prevention of further medical decline.
