Greenwich Hospital

Timothy Stewart, PA

Timothy Stewart, PA, Greenwich Hospital, received the Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence (PEACE) for demonstrating outstanding compassion, initiative and accountability in ensuring the safety and well-being of a patient who was not under Stewart’s direct care and had already been discharged. Upon learning that the patient’s blood culture had returned positive, Stewart promptly consulted the infectious disease specialist and the patient’s primary care physician, coordinated the plan of care and arranged for the patient to receive appropriate antibiotics. Stewart called in the prescriptions and contacted the patient to inform them of this new development and the next steps. His attentiveness and proactive approach likely prevented a delay in care and potentially serious complications.

Yale New Haven Hospital

Thomas Fedora, RN, Geraldine McSherry, RN

Thomas Fedora, RN, York Street Campus ICU, received the Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence for going above and beyond for an ICU patient who was transferred to an Oncology unit at Smilow. Fedora maintained contact with the patient and family, and when it became clear treatment options were limited, the patient’s daughter rescheduled her wedding so her mother could attend. After receiving permission from the care team for the patient to leave the hospital for the ceremony, the family asked Fedora to accompany the patient to the wedding for support. The family was very grateful for his care and compassion. Fedora also received the DAISY Award, which honors nurses who provide compassionate care and form a special connection with patients and their families.
