Yale New Haven Health Urology - Greenwich

Overview

Urologic diseases affect more than 20 million people in the United States this number is expected to increase as the population ages. Our Yale Medicine urologists are grounded in research and education, and they bring world-class knowledge to their care of patients.

For our patients diagnosed with cancer, we are pleased to offer cancer care in collaboration with Smilow Cancer Hospital, including access to multidisciplinary appointments. On the same day, you meet with your urologist, oncologists, and members of your supportive care team to develop a personalized treatment plan. Our oncology team has made key research breakthroughs in the treatment of metastatic bladder cancer and kidney cancer. Using the latest robotic surgical system provides a minimally invasive surgical option to our patients.

Conditions We Treat

  • Urologic oncology, covering cancer of the bladder, prostate, testis, kidney and penis
  • Prostate disorders such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), an enlargement of the prostate that often causes frequent urination and a feeling of “not emptying” completely. One way our urologists treat this is by holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). This minimally invasive procedure uses high-powered lasers to remove excess tissue from the enlarged prostate, improving a patient’s ability to urinate. Most patients go home on the same day.
  • Kidney stone prevention and treatment
  • Neuro and female urology, providing care for voiding dysfunction, incontinence, female urologic problems and urinary tract difficulties related to neurologic diseases
  • Pediatric urology, covering congenital anomalies and the management of urologic neoplasms, covering congenital anomalies and the management of urologic neoplasms.

For patients with lower risk levels of prostate cancer, focal therapy destroys tumor cells without requiring radiation or other surgeries using various types of energy. This treatment not only preserves the prostate but protects urinary and sexual function. Focal therapy can also be used to treat tumors and preserve kidney function for patients with ureter and upper urinary tract cancers. Patients typically go home the same day.

Our urologists use laparoscopic techniques, decreasing the usual lengths of stay associated with traditional surgery.
