Epic Electronic Medical Records

Frequently Asked Questions About
The Epic Systems Corp. Electronic Medical Record

Greenwich Hospital's new EMR technology is developed by Epic Systems Corp. By 2013, the Yale New Haven Health System and affiliated physician practices will be using the Epic EMR.

How does the Epic EMR help manage patient care for my hospitalized patients?

From the hospital, their private office or another location, physicians have easy online access to one centralized electronic chart with all of the patient’s information, including medical history, medications, allergies, laboratory and radiology results and more.

What are the benefits to physicians?

Community, hospital-based, and university physicians who practice in the Yale New Haven Health System hospitals and clinics, Northeast Medical Group or participating private practices will be able to see patient data in a way they have never done so before.

In the hospital or remotely through a secure computer, the physician can:

  • Access all of a patient’s information
  • See results as soon as they are available
  • Communicate directly with other physicians about a patient
  • Route diagnostic testing results to the appropriate caregivers in a timely manner
  • Place orders remotely 24x7

All of this is easily managed in a single, integrated patient medical record via the Epic applications.

With Epic EMR, physicians can improve communication within offices and between environments of care such as office to office and hospital to office.

How do I preserve my private practice autonomy?

Information about your billing, financial, and scheduling is separate and secure from other practices.
