Greenwich, CT (Nov. 20, 2018) – Area residents gathered at the Greenwich Hospital annual Tree of Light celebration on Monday to benefit the Palliative Care Program.
The non-denominational event featured readings and music, culminating with the lighting of an evergreen tree strung with hundreds of lights in memory or in honor of loved ones.
Donations to the Tree of Light benefit our Palliative Care Program. Palliative Care focuses on symptom, pain management and quality of life issues for adult patients with complex, chronic or terminal illnesses at any stage of the illness, with a focus on emotional, physical and spiritual support. Should you wish to make a donation in memory or honor of a loved one, a special physician or nurse, please donate here.
This year’s celebration included a welcome from Norman G. Roth, Greenwich Hospital president and CEO, and remarks by Dickerman Hollister, MD, section head, Hematology Oncology. “When we see your faces, we remember the devotion and care you gave to your loved ones,” said Roth. “We remember your courage as you faced diagnoses and treatments together, and we remember your love.”
Father Eddie Lopez, director of Spiritual Care, gave the invocation and Rabbi Mary Jane Newman, Spiritual Care offered the benediction in both Hebrew and English. The volunteer acapella vocal group The Grace Notes performed two songs.
The tree will remain on the terrace throughout the holiday season before being planted in the hospital’s Carl and Dorothy Bennett Community Garden.
