Pain Management

With appropriate pain control, you will not only recover faster but also have reduced risk of developing certain complications such as blood clots and pneumonia. If your pain is well controlled, you are better able to engage in important activities such as walking and deep breathing exercises. Our healthcare team works closely with all patients to prevent and relieve pain and discomfort.

Greenwich Hospital Center for Pain Management offers highly individualized inpatient and outpatient care to help people lead productive, enjoyable lives, free of the complications of chronic pain. Because each person perceives pain differently, patients are encouraged to be active partners in their care. Continued personal involvement is key to proper diagnosis and the most successful treatment and rehabilitation possible. Whether your pain is from surgery, illness, accident or another cause, Greenwich Hospital’s pain specialists employ a wide variety of therapies to provide relief for your specific condition.

The Center for Pain Management medical team consists of board-certified pain management specialist physicians, radiology technicians and nurses. Whether your pain is from surgery, illness, accident or another cause, Greenwich Hospital’s pain specialists employ a wide variety of therapies to provide relief for your specific condition.

Pain Management Options

New advances in pain management offer patients a growing number of options:

Nerve blocks, usually pain medicine or steroids, injected directly into the source of pain. Examples are cervical and lumbar epidural blocks, and facet and SI (sacroiliac) joint injections.

Implanted infusion pumps deliver continuous medication for pain or muscle spasms precisely to the source of the pain.

Spinal cord stimulators use electrical current to release pain-relieving hormones found naturally in the body.

Radiofrequency ablation stops or lessens pain by selectively destroying nerve cells.

Discography, a diagnostic procedure using dye injections to determine the exact location of disc pain.

Minimally invasive fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided treatments

Pain control options may also include:

  • Pain relief medication
  • Relaxation techniques, including meditation, Healing Touch therapy, or listening to music
  • Physical therapies such as heat or cold therapy, massage and body alignment
  • Interventional pain management
  • Radiology
  • Nutritional consultation
  • Counseling and behavioral programs
