The Power of Teamwork When It Comes to Our Health

A message from the president of Greenwich Hospital

To say that Patrick Bria, featured in our cover story, faced formidable medical challenges is an understatement. He is living with diabetes, peripheral artery disease, kidney disease and a chronic heel wound that, until recently, did not respond to conventional treatments.

Despite these obstacles, Bria remains active in the community, most notably as president of the Cos Cob Crushers, part of the Greenwich Youth Football League.

Bria is also hopeful, thanks in part to the care provided by our limb-salvage team: Sandra Wainwright, MD, medical director, Greenwich Hospital Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing; Lady Paula DeJesus, DPM, surgical podiatrist, Northeast Medical Group; and Sameer Nagpal, MD, a Yale Medicine interventional cardiologist with the Yale New Haven Health Heart and Vascular Center in Greenwich.

By working together, this medical team healed Bria’s stubborn wound, giving the 50-year-old a shot at having a kidney transplant from a living donor.

Bria’s case illustrates the benefits of being part of Yale New Haven Health, a world-class healthcare network associated with the prestigious Yale School of Medicine and Yale Medicine. From chronic wound care to lifesaving cancer and stroke treatments, our patients have access to premium healthcare services delivered by the finest physicians using the latest technology.

As a member of Yale New Haven Health, Greenwich Hospital offers Connecticut and New York residents top-notch providers who care as much about a patient’s physical health as overall well-being. In Dr. Wainwright’s words, “We don’t just want to make patients better. We want them to get back to their lives.” Now that’s teamwork.
