The Greenwich Hospital Breast Center has been reaccredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC); and Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich has been reaccredited as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer (CoC). The NAPBC and CoC are quality programs of the American College of Surgeons.
NAPBC accreditation is awarded to centers that provide comprehensive, patient-centered, multidisciplinary care and undergo a rigorous evaluation every three years. The evaluation assesses leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.
To earn and maintain CoC accreditation, cancer programs must meet 34 quality care standards; be evaluated every three years through a detailed survey process; and maintain excellence in delivering patient-centered care across the cancer continuum – including prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, lifelong follow-up and end-of-life care.
“Achieving reaccreditation from both the NAPBC and the CoC is a testament to the dedication, collaboration and exceptional care delivered by our entire oncology team,” said Kristina Capretti, RN, DNP, director, patient services, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich and Bridgeport. “These recognitions affirm our mission to provide our patients with access to world-class, compassionate cancer care right here in their own community.”
