Yale New Haven Children's Hospital emergency medicine specialists provide care 24/7 at Greenwich Hospital offering the most advanced pediatric emergency services in the area. The recent renovation of the emergency department includes a dedicated space for pediatric emergency care. Children with less serious bumps, bruises, cuts and sprains are treated in one of our new "fast track" rooms. Further supporting the emergency department's child-friendly environment is a separate waiting room featuring a virtual fish tank, child-size furniture, age-appropriate books, TV programming and interactive media.

Greenwich Hospital’s Level III NICU specializes in the care of premature or sick newborn babies. Babies are monitored 24 hours a day by full-time neonatologists, nurse practitioners and specially trained nurses. The unit contains the most sophisticated and up-to-date equipment to treat babies with special needs.

Because of this, we place special emphasis on clear communications and patient support throughout the child's stay. The staff is committed to parent education and preparation so that both children and their families feel at ease and know what to expect during a hospitalization or procedure.

Yale New Haven Children's Hospital provides families with access to nationally-ranked specialties and expert providers. The expertise of Yale Medicine board-certified pediatric specialists is supported by a multidisciplinary team who care for the clinical, developmental and social needs of children and their families. In addition to physicians, advanced practice providers and registered nurses, an on-site social worker, psychologist, dietitian and child life specialist round out the team. The Pediatric Specialty Center is located conveniently at 500 West Putnam Avenue, Greenwich.

Overnight sleep studies for pediatric patients are offered at Greenwich Hospital.

During a sleep study (polysomnography), monitoring equipment will record important body functions during sleep such as heart rhythm, brain waves and muscle activity, eye movement, oxygen levels and breathing. The data is analyzed by sleep physicians and then sent to the referring doctor along with recommendations for treatment.

Sleep Centers are staffed by registered polysomnographic technologists who are specially trained to make children feel comfortable. They are also experienced in helping kids with developmental difficulties. If a child may benefit from a visit to the Sleep Center prior to the study, our team will help arrange this. Sleeping accommodations are available for one parent for the overnight study. We encourage children to bring a favorite toy or blanket for comfort.

Although most pediatric visits to Greenwich Hospital are for ambulatory, or same-day, procedures, we offer a full range of surgical procedures for children, from infancy through their teenage years. Patients are cared for by staff specially trained in treating children. Children who remain in the hospital after surgery stay in the Pediatric Unit.

The pediatric surgery services team understands and respects the importance of clear and thorough communication with families. Emphasis is placed on educating children and parents so that they understand what to expect and are as comfortable and well prepared as possible for surgery.
