Air-conditioned apartments conveniently located a short walk from the hospital are available for all residents though there is limited availability of apartments of specific sizes. (Ex. One bedroom tends to be a popular request.) On-site parking is free. A pet policy limits the type and number of pets allowed at an additional cost, and no dogs are allowed in Prescott House. Greenwich Hospital and hospital-owned housing such as Prescott House are smoke-free. Residents pay for utilities. Rent for preliminary residents is subsidized. Rent is not charged for categorical residents, but the market rent for an apartment is reported as additional monthly income on the resident’s W2 tax form. This additional “imputed” income in the form of uncharged rent is thus subject to federal and state income taxes, but the result is a monthly occupancy cost in the form of taxes that is significantly lower than local apartment market rent.
Comprehensive medical and dental insurance are offered to residents and their family as part of a flexible benefits package. Those with coverage through a spouse may select supplementary benefits to avoid overlap.
Paid by the hospital. Disability policy is similar to that developed by Yale University and includes portability and enhanced benefits.
Meal stipend provided for conference and on-call rotations.
$500 per month travel subsidy provided for electives at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Residents qualify for up to $1,000 paid toward an approved continuing medical education conference, an approved conference to present research conducted at Greenwich Hospital, and/or Board Review preparation courses. The Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP) is provided for categorical residents for internal medicine board review sessions.
Patient transportation and other ancillary support, including respiratory therapy, phlebotomy, and specially trained nurses who focus on placing IV lines, are on-duty 24 hours a day.
